When Gumroad may suit you better

Gumroad includes services you would otherwise need to manage yourself:

You want someone else to handle sales tax worldwide. Gumroad is the merchant of record. It collects and remits VAT and sales tax for you. With Pagemage you sell direct through Stripe, so you're the seller of record.
You want built-in discovery. Gumroad's Discover marketplace puts your product in front of browsing buyers (at 30% per sale). Pagemage has no discovery marketplace.
You prefer a hosted store. Gumroad hosts the product page and delivery. You pay its fees in exchange for that setup and ongoing service.

Choose Pagemage if you want to edit and host the storefront source yourself. Gumroad may cost less in time and administration, especially if you need its merchant-of-record service.

Is Gumroad really 10% + 50¢ per sale?

Yes, that's Gumroad's published fee for direct sales (customers who buy through your own link): 10% + $0.50 per transaction. Card processing (~2.9% + $0.30) is charged on top. Sales through Gumroad's Discover marketplace are a flat 30%, processing included. If you refund a customer, Gumroad keeps its fee.

What does Pagemage take from each sale?

Pagemage charges no fee per sale. You pay for the starter license, Stripe processing, hosting, and any other services you choose. Payments go to your Stripe account.

What about sales tax?

Gumroad is the merchant of record: it collects and remits sales tax and VAT for you. With Pagemage you sell direct through Stripe, so you are the seller of record. Stripe Tax can calculate and collect tax at checkout, but it must be configured and wired into checkout; enabling it in the dashboard alone does not change API-created checkouts. Check your registration and filing obligations before selling.

Can I use Gumroad and Pagemage together?

Yes. Some sellers keep a Gumroad profile for discovery traffic and run their own Pagemage site for direct sales. Both can point at the same products.
